Where we walked
1. A bridge over the Herengracht
We started on a bridge with a row of tall canal houses behind the couple. A bridge gives you space around you and the whole width of the canal as a background.
2. Doorsteps and street lamps
A few steps along the canal: dark lacquered doors, stone steps, a pair of doors with wreaths and an old street lamp to lean on and play around.
3. The corner of Herenstraat
On the corner of Herenstraat and Herengracht there is a bench outside a small shop. Sitting down for a few frames gives the session a slower, quieter moment.
4. Coffee on a bridge
After a change into a second look, a coffee on a canal bridge, and a bicycle by the railing with a bright orange canal house across the water.
5. A pontoon on open water
We finished on a wooden pontoon where the canal opens up. In low sun the water lights up behind you, which is the moment for a slow dance.
When this was shot
The session ran from about half past ten to half past eleven in the morning. On a clear day the low sun lights the facades on one side of the canal, so we plan the order of the stops to keep the light on your faces.
